The Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact is the new compact sized tablet from the Japanese tech giant that was first unveiled during the IFA tech event held in September 3rd. Presently, users can preorder it through Sony Mobile store. It is priced at $500 and the official release date was set to November 2.
The thickness of the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact is only 6.4 mm and it measures 213.4 x 123.6 and it weighs 270 g. The sides of the device have an aluminum frame but areas of the tablet comprise of glass and plastic. The rear is made up of matte plastic. Since it is an IP68 certified, the tablet is resistant to water and dust. The tablet is available in two color options, black and white.

The stereo speakers powered with Sony 3D surround Sound are placed on the bottom edge of the device. On the sides of the device, you can find the charging port, microSD slot, nano SIM card slot, 3.5 mm audio jack, power key and volume controller.

The 8-inch Triluminos TFT LCD screen of Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact supports a display resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels with 283 ppi. The colors appear very vivid and crisp on the screen and it delivers wide viewing angles. As Sony claims, it sports the brightest LCD screen. It has a reflective screen which makes it little to view the display under bright sunlight.
Processor, RAM and Storage
Under the hood of the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact lies the Snapdragon 801 SoC which features a Krait 400 quad-core processor that performs at 2.5 GHz speed along with Adreno 330 graphics. It is complemented with 3 GB of RAM. The tablet is available in one inbuilt storage option of 16 GB. The external storage slot can support up to 128 GB of microSD.
Camera and Software
There is an 8 MP Exmor RS sensor camera fitted at the backside of the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact. However, Sony has not included a LED flash which will discourage users from snapping photos in low lighting conditions. In good lighting, the camera is able to snap decent photos. It can record videos of 1080p at 30 fps along with good sound clarity. The front features a 2 MP camera which also supports 1080p video shooting at 30 fps.
The Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact comes preloaded with Android v4.4.2 KitKat. It is overlaid with Sony’s Xperia UI. It is one of the first Sony Xperia devices in line to receive the Android Lollipop update very soon.
Connectivity and Battery
There are plenty of connectivity features on the Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact. The tablet is available in two versions; one is Wi-Fi only edition and the other one is LTE variant. The LTE edition tablet features a category 4 LTE modem that offers download speeds of 150 Mbps and uploads speeds of 50 Mbps. The LTE edition also supports voice calling.
The other connectivity features of the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact include dual band 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth v4.0 LE, NFC, MHL 3 (through microUSB v2.0), USB OTG, GPS and GLONASS.

The Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact is packed with a good 4500 mAh battery. Sony has managed to add a larger battery inside a very thin tablet. It allows the user to browse on the web for over 18 hours and watch videos for nearly 13 hours continuously. Sony officially states that the battery can last up to 15 hours. It features Extended Standby and Extended Usage modes to increase the life when the battery is about to die.
